Centurion University of Technology and Management (CUTM), a multi-disciplinary university at Parlakhemundi in south Orissa’s Gajapati district, is expected to play a catalytic role in the skill development of youth in the educationally backward and the Maoist infested district.
The Orissa chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Sunday inaugurated the University at Paralakhemundi, the district head quarter town of Gajapati district.
The university would offer BTech and MBA courses along with vocational and skill training.
“CUTM is the first university in the state to introduce the school system in an institute”, Mukti Mishra, chairman of CUTM told Business Standard. The Governor of the state is the Visitor of the university (equivalent to Chancellor in government varsities), he added.
The Chief Minister advised the university authorities to impart quality and vocational education. He also asked them to train about one lakh students from amongst the economically backward and marginalized segments of the society in coordination with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).
The NSDC, a non-profit organisation, aims to integrate students from economically backward sections with the mainstream through skill development and vocational training on a mass scale.
