The Strategist Team Mumbai
The All India Management Association recently held a workshop on "Profitability through innovation and creativity". The workshop director was Rekha Shetty, managing director of business consultancy Farstar Distribution Network.

Shetty is a specialist in the field of creativity in management. She has conducted over 500 creativity labs in India and other countries.

The workshop, which targeted middle- and senior-level managers, helped them explore and brainstorm the efficacy of various tools with respect to their own work profile.

The objectives of the workshop were to develop individual and group creativity skills; and develop practical ways to use these skills in the workplace.

Techniques like PO-Analogy method where the attributes of an impossible task are matched with similar processes so as to generate alternative solutions gave an interesting angle to problem solving.

Participating companies included Amity Business School, HPCL, IOC, Engineers India Ltd, Think Inc, Moser Baer, NIIT, Spice Global and NTPC.

Centre for Entrepreneur Development

The Delhi-based Fortune Institute of International Business (FIIB) is setting up a Centre for Entrepreneur Development, which, the institute claims, will be approved by AICTE.

The centre is aimed at developing entrepreneurs who will be geared to compete with global brands and contribute towards job creation.

The centre is aimed at training young graduates in setting up greenfield projects as well as expand existing family businesses. FIIB plans to start the centre by early 2005 in the next academic session.

Leveraging its flagship course on international business, the curriculum of the Entrepreneur Development Centre will cover topics like bank loans; seeking international alliances; brand building; manpower management; asset management; and so on.
