The Great Eastern Shipping Company India's largest private shipping company. The institute is currently drafting the curriculum and is expected to launch the course by next year.
GEIMS opened an 18-acre campus in Lonavala in 2006 and offers residential programmes in Graduate Marine Engineer (GME) and Trainee Navigating Officer Cadet (TNOC).
The institute has tied up with Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and offers training for male and female cadets. The duration of GME will be 8 months on-shore followed by 10 months on board training. The total fee for the course is Rs 3.5 lakh.
The course duration for TNOC is 12 months on-shore training followed by 18 months on board training. The total fee for the course will be around Rs 4.4 lakh.

Currently, GEIMS offers 40 seats for each course and trains around 150 cadets annually.
AK More, assistant manager, fleet personnel, GE Shipping, says: "A career in marine engineering is very lucrative. There is a shortage of over 10,000 candidates in the industry. While the course benefits GE Shipping, providing it with qualified and trained officers to man its vessels on a regular basis, students are usually not aware of this programme."
