The Kolkata-based Globsyn Group joined hands with California State University (CSU) to launch programmes in entrepreneurship for those running family businesses. The group, which recently established the Asian Institute of Family Business (AIFB) to cater to the education and training needs of family run businesses, will offer two post graduate courses.

AIFB and CSU will jointly offer an 18-month Family Managed Business Administration (FMBA) programme and a 15-month Post Graduate Diploma in Innovation and Entrepreneurship. The two are niche courses and the selection criteria is only for people with family business without which they will not be allowed to fill up the admission form.

“The programmes have been designed by both the institutes, and students will get a CSU degree or diploma post the completion of the courses. Admissions for the courses will start from January and the first batch of students will start in Ahmedabad,” said Bikram Dasgupta, chairman and CEO, Globsyn Group. After Ahmedabad, Globsyn intends to tap Kolkata and Mumbai in 2011.

AIFB plans to enroll 60 students for the FMBA and 30 students for the diploma course. Both programmes will cost around Rs 400,000 and classes will be held on weekends for four hours at the AIFB campus.

“On non-working days, students will be given assignments for which they will collect data from their own companies. Learning will be case study-based and less theoretical,” added Dasgupta.

Last 16 days of the programmes will see students going to California where they will interact with successful entrepreneurs of Silicon Valley like Google, Microsoft and Yahoo.
