This research will be led by the Centre for Global Logistics and Manufacturing Strategies (GLAMS) at the ISB and IBM's India Research Laboratory.

This research will help the companies redesign their project management, reduce attrition and help high performance groups go up the value chain. It will study mathematical modelling techniques and social networks to enable organisations to improve the way the people work.

The research team, comprising three members each from ISB and IBM, will use forecasting techniques, data mining, social network analysis for the study.

Speaking on the occasion, ISB dean M Rammohan Rao said the research, spanning two years, would be market-driven and real time inputs from the companies would be used.

"Some of the research will be case studies for the companies,'' he said. This could be used to develop the small and medium enterprises as well.

India Research Laboratory director Guruduth Banavar said the end result could be used by either party and the companies without worrying about the intellectual property issues.

"The sourcecode will be open to all players," he said. The focus will be on enhancing the role of people across the sectors.

The research collaboration will be free from the constraints of the corporate-sponsored research at universities.

GLAMS director N Viswanadham said the research would work to improve the delivery for service through collaboration.
