Logging on to an open mode, the Kerala state-owned Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management-Kerala (IIITM-K) has kicked off plans to open its doors for professionals working for different companies situated in Technopark. |
According to the Thiruvananthapuram Technopark-based IIITM-K, the subject areas to be covered include IT, software engineering, scientific computing and many more. |
A decision to go on an open mode was taken at a meeting of the board of directors of the IIITM-K, headed by S Gopalakrishnan, chairman, Infosys Technologies. |
The institute plans to offer courses in the areas of theoretical and applied computer science like software engineering, IT, GIS and geoinformatics, information sciences and knowledge management, mathematical foundations of IT, signals systems and signal processing, control theory, e-governance and web-technologies. |
It also has programmes in computer architecture and organisation, embedded systems, principles of programming, object-oriented design analysis, computational chemistry, computational biology, soft-computing and neuro-fuzzy techniques. The institute will announce the courses on offer from time to time through its portal. |
KR Srivatsan, director, IIITM-K, said, "This is for the first time that IIITM-K is opening its doors for the professionals pursuing their career in and around Technopark, where they are in a position to spare a few hours every week for studies and upgrade their knowledge and skills in the field. In a semi-flexible manner, they will be able to complete adequate number of credits through different courses, complete relevant project or term paper work and obtain the PGDIT of IIITM-K". |
He added, "While IIITM-K is offering this open PGDIT programme, it is also upgrading its present PGDIT to a full-time M Tech programme. With Technopark's working population of 15,000 growing further, the new open PGDIT programme will help a number of professionals in the IT industry to advance their capabilities." |
IIITM-K is also giving students the option of taking up courses through the tutored video instruction system, which uses recorded lectures by the faculty of the institute. |
The registration for the courses will be on till August 31. Classes will commence from September 4. |
