In an interesting development, increasing number of IIM-A students feel comfortable to continue with the companies where they undergo ten week of internship and opt not to appear for the jobs offered by the corporate during placement fair which, takes place in March every year.

Increasing awareness among the students about the companies, their potential and future prospects is also one of the major reasons why some of the students prefer to continue with the companies they work as intern for sometime.

Also more and more companies prefer to employ the IIM-A students they select for internship.

This year the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) will organise job placements from March 8.

Nitin Gupta has decided not to appear for the placement, for, he has already received an offer from Lehman Brothers. Gupta said, "We usually have a broad idea about the companies that will come for the placement. The secnario is similar every year."

After being selected by the companies, students undergo a ten week internship, which usually concludes by the first week of June.

The internship is then, in most of the cases, appraised by the companies.

Already 38 students, 28 of whom had interned abroad, have been offered positions in the respective firms.

About 55 interns have been awarded pre-placement offers and pre-placement interviews.

"Since I already got an offer from Goldman Sachs - London, I won't be sitting for the placement," Devarajan T N, a second year student, said.

He added that his internship period with the company was satisfactory and will take up the job.

Sources from the placement committee said students do know or assume which companies are likely to come and the offers they would be getting.

Students who accept these pre placement offers are allowed to sit for placement in restrited companies only.

Another student who has accepted an offer from Hindustan Lever said he wanted to go into retail industry so he considered the offer from HLL. "It is the best offer if one has to go retail industry", he said and subsequently opted out of the placement," he said.
