Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta (IIM-C) wrapped up its summer placements by placing about 450 students of the 2014-16 batch in barely two and a half days.
According to IIM-C, of the total batch size of 462, 11 opted out and 451 were recruited, with Amazon the largest at 22 offers. As many as 378 offers were made by the end of Day 1.
IIM, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) concluded its summer internship placements for the post graduate programme in agri-business management (PGP-ABM) on Saturday, while the process continued for its flagship PGP. Of the PGP-ABM batch of 49, all but three sought placement through the institute and this happened in less than a day. The three students opting out intended to pursue their own business ideas under the mentorship of Centre for Innovation Incubation and Entrepreneurship (CIIE), as a part of summer internship.

While IIM-C follows the slot system for conducting placements, IIM-A follows the cluster system, wherein each cluster has one or more cohorts of recruiting sectors. So far, IIM-A has concluded two clusters and the third will be on Monday.
Other sectors recruiting at IIM-C were finance, fast moving, consumer goods (FMCG), e-commerce, media and analytics. Leading banks recruited for front-end investment banking, private equity, global markets and corporate banking roles. Offers from finance were 25 per cent of the total at IIM-C.
The FMCG sector saw participation from majors such as Hindustan Unilever, Proctor & Gamble, Mondelez, Asian Paints, PepsiCo, Coca-Cola, L'Oreal, Reckitt Benckiser, Marico, Johnson & Johnson and Kellogg's.The general management sector comprised names like Tata Administrative Services, Mahindra and Mahindra, Aditya Birla Group, CK Birla Group and Airtel as recruiters.
West Asia-based retailing giant MH Alshaya Co recruited 13 IIM-C students for interning at their Kuwait and Dubai locations.
Media houses and analytics recruiters included STAR, Times Group, HT Media, Zee Media, EXL and Cognilytics.
"The continued faith of recruiters in our students' quality has encouraged all of us at campus. We will continue to work hard and strive to achieve even better results in the future," said Rajiv Kumar, placement chairperson at IIM-C.
At IIM-A's summer placements, a little over 25 companies participated in the placement process for the PGP-ABM batch, from multinational corporations to small and medium enterprises, as well as notable start-up firms such as Axis Bank, Godrej Agrovet, Monsanto, Nestle, Rabobank, Syngenta, Tetrapak and Tafe, among others. Satish Deodhar, head of the placement committee at IIM-A, said details about the placement process would be released in an audited report, in line with the Indian Placement Reporting Standards.
