Following a majority of the Indian Institute of Managements (IIMs) hiked their fees for post-graduate programmes, IIM Calcutta on Saturday raised fees by 16.56 per cent to Rs 19 lakh for the two-year flagship post-graduate programme from the 2016 academic session. Earlier, the fees were Rs 16,30,000.

Foreign students will have to shell out $5,000 (10 per cent) more for the two-year session and pay $55,000.

With this fee hike, IIM Calcutta has become the second-most costliest IIM trailing Ahmedabad by just Rs 50,000.

While the institute did not cite any reason for the fee hike, a senior official said, “We have not hiked the fees for the past two years”.

The hiked fee covers tuition, academic facilities like library access, materials, accommodation, medical facilities and basic health care and related conveniences for two years.

In April 2014, the institute had announced a hike of almost 20 per cent taking the fees to Rs 16,30,000.

Incidentally, this is the second-highest increase in percentage terms. IIM Ahmedabad hiked its course fees by 5.4 per cent last month to Rs 19,50,000 while Lucknow increased it by nearly 30 per cent to Rs 14,00,000 from Rs 10,80,000 earlier. Course fees in IIM Bangalore had also increased by 10 per cent at Rs 18,70,000 for the 2015 academic session while IIM Raipur hiked by the same per cent at Rs 10,51,000.
