As part of its golden jubilee celebrations the oldest Indian Institute of Management in the country, IIM-Calcutta (IIM-C) is planning a slew of new courses, including those that would promote a greater inclusion of women.

“We are working towards ensuring increasing the number of women at IIM-C by coming up with courses parallel to the flagship post graduate diploma in business management,” said an IIM-C professor on condition of anonymity.

For most IIMs, the issue of male female ratio has been contentious for a while now, in light of the average ratio of 80-20 in favour of men that characterizes most classes. With the increasing pool of female candidates, IIM-C is looking at ways of encouraging admission as well.

“With growing complications in international economic management, there is growing relevance for a deeper understanding of issues of financial and debt instruments. We are looking at introduction of relevant courses tailor made for working executives”, said Saugata Roy, dean, IIM-C.

IIM-C will also introduce executive programmes for about 1,000 students which would be primarily self funded courses.

“In most cases, it is tough to come across good amounts of government funding. These courses will provide the dual purpose of funding along with training more professional,” the professor explained.
