Of the entire 361 students inducted into the fresh batch (2013-15) of the IIM-Kozhikode's post graduation course, there are 196 women candidates, which is 54.29 per cent of the total strength. For the current batch, the institute has admitted candidates from diverse talent profile, such as Priya Chandak, who has represented India in the World Skating Championships; Prakriti Sharma, a national level swimmer and basketball player and V Lekshmi, the all-India topper in CBSE in 2007.
The batch has around 85 per cent students from bachelors degree in engineering and technology, 11 per cent from commerce & economics and 4 per cent from medicine, pharmacy, science and agriculture, said Prof Debashis Chatterjee, director, IIMK. "This year, we have not only led in ensuring gender diversity but have also admitted national talent from the field of sports, music, martial arts and the social sector. Our goal is to churn out not just a competent manager, but also a well-rounded and a compassionate human being. In this endeavour, the current batch of students will be our pathfinders.
