Students who couldn't make it to the second round of admission process to enter any of the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) at Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Kolkata, Indore, Kozhikode and Lucknow on the basis of their Common Admission Test (CAT) scores will still be able to apply for the newest IIM, IIM-Shillong.

The deadline for applications to the Rajiv Gandhi Indian Institute of Management (RGIIM) Shillong has been extended to 22nd January.

The not-so-good news, however, is that the admission criteria for the institute is yet to be decided.

Of the 2,30,000 students who had appeared for CAT this year, nearly 8,000 have made it to the second round of the six IIMs. IIM Ahmedabad has shortlisted 745 candidates, close to 1,030 have been shortlisted at IIM Bangalore, around 880 at IIM Calcutta, 1,200 candidates at IIM Lucknow, about 1,900 at IIM Kozhikode and 1,730 candidates at IIM Indore have been shortlisted.

For the first batch of Post Graduate Programme (PGP) at RGIIM, 60 students will be chosen. A source close to the institute said that it has received 1,000 online applications so far through its website rgiim.org.

Nearly 500 students could get the call for the Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI) round by the end of February.

In a few days, the director-elect of the institute, Ashok Kumar Dutta, current Director of Indian Institute of Social Welfare and Business Management, Kolkata is expected to chair a meeting to decide the admission criteria. Jahar Saha, former director, IIM Ahmedabad, is also likely be a part of the admission committee.

The institute will have an intake of 60 in the first year and will ramp it up to 120 in the 3rd year and to 180 in the 6th year. Interviews for faculty members are still being conducted. An official from IIM Ahmedabad is being deputed to Shillong for the admission process.

This year, all the IIMs, most of them for the first time, uploaded their sectional and overall cut-offs on the website much before the common admission test results.

Being a new entrant, Rajiv Gandhi Indian Institute of Management is yet to do so. The institute also accepted only online applications this year.
