Indian Institute of Management, Visakhapatnam, one of the six new IIMs sanctioned by the Centre and the first to come up in the state of Andhra Pradesh, will begin its academic year 2015-16 from September 28 with an intake of 54 students comprising 50 boys and four girls. The students have a strong diversity in work experience.

The classes would be held temporarily from the Andhra Bank School of Business in the premises of Andhra University. The institute's own campus, which would take a few years to come up, is being readied on a 300-acre site at Gambheeram, 30 km from Visakhapatnam.

For now, the institute will offer IIM-Bangalore's flagship two-year PGP (post-graduate programme) in management, which will be delivered by the faculty of IIM Bangalore. The programme was inaugurated today and will be followed by a week-long orientation.

IIM-B faculty have designed the academic programme and would provide mentorship to the new institute. They would be available to the students of IIM Visakhapatnam for interaction and discussion. "IIM-B alumni will provide mentoring support and we will leverage our industry connections to ensure that the students at IIM Visakhapatnam enjoy as holistic and transformative a learning experience as their peers at IIM Bangalore," said an IIM-B spokesperson.

Dr Sourav Mukherjee, Dean, Programmes at IIM-B, is the nodal officer for IIM-V.
