IIT-B to launch BTech course in energy science

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, has proposed a specialised B.Tech programme in energy science and engineering stream this year to mark its golden jubilee celebrations which begins in the month of September 2007.
 
The institute will also offer dual degree option and expand its research activities as well as engage in a compressive faculty development programme.
 
IIT Bombay's Director Ashok Mishra said golden jubilee celebrations will trigger initiatives in the area of research into the technologies that the world will face in the coming years.
 
The institute has introduced a specialised course in energy science and engineering which will focus on subjects like alternative fuels to deal with the fundamentals of energy and conservation aspects.
 
Spending more to make classes work
 
To lure an increasing number of students to their campuses, educational institutions are shelling out big money on TV advertising.
 
According to a survey conducted by AdEx India -- a division of TAM Media research, TV advertising by the education sector has seen a growth of 82 per cent in January-May 2007 over the same period last year.
 
Educational institutions grabbed 62 per cent of advertising pie followed by Vocational training institutes' and 'Coaching Centre/Competitive Exams' with 14 per cent and 12 per cent share respectively. Coaching Centres exhibited the maximum growth of 2.2 times in advertising volumes.
