The Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IIT-K), has developed eco-friendly biological pesticides, which will be of immense use in organic farming. The IIT students and professors have successfully tested the bio-pesticides in the farms, yielding better and encouraging results. IIT professor, S Padmakar told Business Standard that after two years of research the pesticides had been made from biological extracts like lemon, tulsi, lantana and madar, which had strong anti-bug properties. “The pesticides have yielded best results for potato, guava, tomato, cauliflower, brinjal and some flowering plants. We are still trying to bring down the raw material costs by scouting for cheaper alternatives,” he added.
