The Institute of Management Technology (IMT), Ghaziabad has introduced nearly 19 new electives for its newly inducted batch of 2007-09.

These include corporate governance and social responsibility, infrastructure project management and finance, information security, financial statements analysis and business valuations, database administration and tuning, stress management and transactional analysis, effective recruitment and selection, global economic environment and others.

"All these electives are need-based. We sense the need of the industry and then decide on the new electives," said DP Goyal, dean of academics IMT, during the orientation programme of the fresh batch.

The institute will continue with its student exchange programme, which was introduced last year.

"We felt there was a need for students to get global exposure. Therefore we joined hands with top business schools (B-schools) in the US, the UK, Japan, Korea and various South Asian countries. The collaboration is for student and faculty exchange, research and conferences. The idea is to send one-third of the students and faculty to foreign institutes for one semester under the exchange-programme," said Goyal.

In his inaugural address, BS Sahay, director, IMT Ghaziabad, laid stress on cross-functional cooperation, team spirit and self discipline which, he said, are required for any organisation to achieve profitable, sustainable growth.

He also stressed that at IMT, it is essential for the students to become true business professionals with values and high integrity.

The orientation programme generated tremendous response from the students.

Ashwini Dubey of the new batch added, "The exposure that I have had over the last few hours has given me an indication of what to expect at IMT. I believe the decision to associate with IMT is right."
