As many as ten students of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A), have rejected international offers to take up positions in India.

This underlines the fact that India is fast emerging as one of the most preferred destination for management students. Several students from internationally reputed B-schools are also coming to Indian corporates for training.

Kanishka Raja, a student of IIM-A put it simply: "India is changing fast. By 2020, it is going to be completely different from what it is now."

Raja turned down an offer by global consulting firm Bain and Company to opt for a job with Boston Consulting Group. He was offered a salary of $90,000 by Bain and Company for a posting in Singapore, but settled for Boston's package of Rs 14 lakh for a Mumbai placement.

"I believe that, with a variety of job profiles in India, it could be beneficial back here itself," said Kanishka, who has no previous work experience. He had completed his electronics engineering from BITS before joining IIM-A.

Similarly, Vipul Kedia, has opted to join IBM Business Consulting division in India instead of taking an offer from P&G for a Singapore posting.

"Although a formal offer was not made, I was told that P&G was making a marketing offer. However, I want to do something connected with IT," said Kedia, who will get a pay package of Rs 8.2 lakh. After a ten-week induction course at Bangalore, He is likely to be posted in Mumbai.

Several other students have also turned down offers for placements abroad. Many of these could not be reached as they have returned home for a brief vacation before the IIM-A convocation on April 2.

Meanwhile, three students out of the 250-strong passing out batch have opted to start their own ventures. The three students, Sharad Chandra, Pravin Y and Chhatrapal Nineve, said, while they thought of doing something different in the first year itself, it was the Laboratory Entrepreneurial Motivation (LEM) course that helped them make up their minds.

Chandra and Pravin plan to set up management consultancies for small scale units, either at Hyderabad or Bangalore. Nineve intends to start an orange pulp unit at Nagpur.
