The Gujarat High Court has directed the Institute of Rural Management, Anand (IRMA) to convene the Special General Body Meeting of IRMA on Thursday under the supervision of a court officer for deciding afresh the co-option of the five members.

All the members of IRMA Society, including V Kurien, chairman, by consensus approved the co-option of the five members " Hasmukh Shah, ex-chairman, IPCL, V Ramachandran, ex-secretary, Government of India, Bakul Dholakia, director, IIM-A, Abraham, director of Xavier Institute of Management and Vijay Mahajan, MD, BASIX.

At a meeting held at IRMA after the court's order, out of 19 members present in the meeting, 15 members supported the co-option of the five members and therefore, Kurien had no option but to approve. This puts an end to many legal litigations that surrounded IRMA, said sources.

Kurien had to accept the the co-option of five members on the Board of IRMA.

Since these members insisted for implementation of the assisstant charity commissioner's order which had questioned the continuation of Kurien as life time chairman of IRMA and opposed his action of terminating the services of K Prathap Reddy, director, IRMA, Kurien disputed the co-option of the five members contending that their term was expired and they are not eligible to be Board Members of IRMA.

He even prevented the members from attending the convocation of IRMA and board meeting last year by shutting the doors of the institute.

This led to multiple legal battles, which finally landed in Gujarat High Court.

The members who approved co-option were Amrita Patel, chairman, NDDB, BM Vyas, MD, GCMMF, Reddy, MD, KMF, Krishnamurthy, CGM, NABARD, Amar Prasad, CEO, Gramin Vikas Trust (KRIBHCO), Neelima Khaitan, CE, Seva Mandir, Ghatak, acting MD, NCDFI, Mayur Vyas, MD, Sabar Union, Sangram Choudhary, MD, Banas Union, Rahul Kumar, MD, Kaira Union, Rama Reddy, Vipul Mitra, secretary, Govt. of Gujarat, Amar Sinh, joint secretary, Govt. of India and NA Shaikh, MD, MDFPL.
