Indian School of Business is expecting the number of job offers to go up 20 per cent for the present batch (Class 2011) that will graduate in April next year.

ISB senior director — Career Advancement Services, VK Menon, said the school was seeing a very positive trend from companies from the Asia Pacific region, particularly Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, and West Asia for this recruitment season, the preplacement talks for which will happen in November.

The international placement will happen in January while the domestic will go on till March. ISB is also focussed on the traditional international job markets - US and UK.

The Class 2010 with 568 students saw 346 companies making 541 offers, about 33 per cent more than 401 the previous class got. There were 60 international offers from 65 companies. The average international CTC was $1,29,275 while the average salaries increased 11 per cent.

The present batch has 571 students (28 per cent women).

There are already feelers from finance, consulting and marketing companies for taking more students. “Many jobs were lost in the last two years. The companies are now in a catch-up mode,” Menon said adding health sector and entrepreneurship looked strong this year. The conventional recruiters too were getting strong.

“We expect to hear from at least 40 international companies in a week or two,” he said.

Dean Ajit Rangnekar had in March this year said ISB for the 2011 batch would ask companies to come for recruitment in February or March and not in January. The companies could recruit till June, a good three months after the graduation is over.

The move was aimed at ensuring that students do not get distracted from the academics due to the placement. Besides, the extended placement drive would give them more time to find a job or domain of their choice.

However, ISB would continue with the old system of inviting the companies in January only. Recruiters having a fixed placement cycle is one of the factors to continue with the old placement schedule.

The placement will be a on a rolling basis implying that the recruitment session would go beyond the graduation day in April by three to four months or till all the students who opt for placement assistance find a job. This will mean that more companies might come to ISB in the late stages for recruitment, Menon said.
