Kurien quits GCMMF

Verghese Kurien today stepped down from the chairmanship of Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which owns brand Amul. 

Kurien called a news conference here in the wake of the decision taken by the board of the directors of GCMMF to oust him from the chairmanship of GCMMF.

Addressing the media and a large gathering of students of Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) and his supporters at the IRMA auditorium, Kurien said: "I would like to inform you that I have today tendered my resignation as member and chairman of the board of directors of GCMMF." 

 
Kurien's speech carried a painful tone - "I did my best, in my small way, to fulfill the dreams of Indian farmers. In this process, I might have antagonised some people and confronted certain vested interests bent on exploiting India
