Dear Students,
LAST WEEK WE ASKED:
Do you think coaching classes will lose edge with the IITs' new admission format?
BEST RESPONSE
It is not possible to predict the long-term impact of the new admission format on the coaching classes. However, it is certain that coaching classes will try to adapt themselves to the changed format by altering their syllabi and style of teaching. Giving equal weightage to board results will prompt them to include other subjects as well. Coaching classes will try to evolve so as to survive in the new scenario. And there is a possibility that some section of students will turn their backs on them and instead focus on schools justifying the change.

OTHER RESPONSES
The coaching centres will remain unswayed by the IITs' new admission format even though it now takes into account 10th and 12th percentage. Because coaching as an industry cater to what inputs are required by the children, so now they will train students for the both IIT-JEE and the board exams. Coaching centres exist because of the existing lacuna at schools and highly skewed education system. Moreover, the new exam format will merely mean a change in the coaching syllabi and students will continue to look for help due to cut throat competition.

On the application of the new admission format by IITs, the preparation for the exams by students will change and instead of focusing on Physics, Chemistry and Maths they will study everything and it would encourage the students in preparing the whole. It will directly impact coaching institutions, which offer the code for cracking the earlier PCM-based exam. Thus, to save themselves they can go for the overall teaching of the subject package combining the former ones.

Yes, coaching classes will have to definitely change its approach of teaching if they want to survive in our education system if IITs implement this format. The pressure will increase on coaching centres as they will have to deal with all the subjects of 10+2 instead of concentrating on Physics, Chemistry and Maths only and giving the code for cracking the same. As they would have to deal with some other subjects also so their scope of teaching will now increase with competition between coaching centers only. The commercial opening of IIT coaching centres across the country will now come to a halt, thanks to the new admission format introduced in engineering entrance to give weightage to the board marks. The obsolete high board marks will now work wonders for the aspirants to grant a good engineering seat.Aspirants will thus, now attach more gravity to board marks along with the JEE performance. Hence there will be subtle change in the centre of focus from coaching centres to schools and board exams.

Parents and students tend to look for guidance elsewhere (coaching institutes) as they lack faith in the existing education system adopted by schools in India. Till the time such faith isn't strongly embedded in our consciousness coaching institutes will continue to thrive. Yes, such institutes may have to change their methodology and may be impacted for a short period, but just like our innovative nation... these instiitutes shall innovate and come out stronger... With better quality of output.

If the new admission format of IIT comes in to existence then private coaching classes will change the targets or will make their padagology according to the need of students. Even they can go for other coaching as like CAT, MAT, I ALTS, Banking Entrance Exams and many other competitive exams. and this way they can create their batches, and number of students because name of their classes are quiet popular because they have the capability, to teach in any area of study for competitive exams. Thus the private coaching will not affect much if they are flexible and accept the challenge.

THIS WEEK'S QUESTION:
Would you subscribe to N R Narayana Murthy's view that quality of 80 per cent of IIT students is not as good as it used to be?
