Do you think the recessionary trends will impact the summer placements again this year?

I think that summer placements will not be affected by the recessionary trend again this year. This is so because much of the recession period had gone and bail out process were also involved in many of them. It is the individual person own decision to select in which company and for the company which candidate to be selected as companies have separate criteria for their own identity.If both the candidate and the recruiter of the firm gets clicked, then recession like thing happens to be a past history.

The present trend of recession will have an impact on the summer placements this year but to a certain extent. It is likely to affect the mediocre B-schools albeit the scenario at top management schools like IIM's is bound to be unaffected.Recently,the major economies of the world have cut various jobs thereby forcing Indians to return to their land.During such time,when companies find it difficult to maintain large number of employee base how can they afford to give summer placements.

Recessionary trends will not have much effect on Indian B-school as the learning from 08’-09 recession will come handy. But since India is partially integrated with the world economy and Indian IT sector and consulting companies is partially being flourished by US economy and lending institution, we can't neglect it's devastating effect on Indian IT sector. The real impact of recession will be on other B school as the demand for human resources is going to come down. Moreover, the impact of recession is unpredictable and depends entirely on the severity of the recession.

The financial setback which each MNC is facing in its audit book is making it difficult to sustain its cost spending. Specific sectors like Aviation, Infrastructure, Oil Companies, OMCs, Power Companies are already going with their most difficult times. The multitude of allays is in choosing for the most cautious pace and which is what each company today is opting for. In these sluggish times, apart from ivy league colleges the graduates will again find difficulty in fetching a proper placement.

Recessionary period will definitely affect the summer internship programs because companies not only cut down on recruitments but also on training costs. It would, however, be more difficult for the small and local institutes to place their students. Later, students may not get internships at places that they would prefer. Moreover all the companies will not being affected by recessionary trend because of their strengths and type of business in which they exist.

For recruiters it's definitely very difficult in recessionary times to hire interns. At the same time, recessionary times offer best opportunity to applicants to prove their worth and get an advantage over others by exhibiting the best of knowledge and conveying how they can be beneficial to the organization. No matter what the world economy is going through employers always need new people with new ideas and its not going to impact the best candidates.
