Dear Students,

LAST WEEK WE ASKED: Do you think online internship portals help students get the best bet as compared to colleges?

BEST RESPONSE

Online portals provide more transparency as well as options for students which they could otherwise not get in a small room of a college. Nowadays, online internship portals have proven to be a dynamic platform with companies being well-researched wherein the students get freedom as well as options of choosing the pay rate, the features available for the particular internship and the companies of their choice because of which the comparison can be done to get the best possible internship.

- Poonam Binaykiya, FPSB India.

OTHER RESPONSES:

In the present context of e-generation, each aspect of a student's life is governed by the Internet. Moreover, all students can't afford to go to the top colleges for studies and thereby have greater access to some of the best corporates. This is where the online internship portals come to the rescue. These portals can provide access to some of the best companies for internship to students in some of the least known B-schools.

- Naveen Tiwari, NITIE, Mumbai.

The online internship portals are obviously helpful in providing internships to the required students. But they can't be considered as the best bet because the companies coming to respective colleges give required training according to the curriculum. While the internships secured through an online portal may provide practical experience of job environment without much emphasis on course structure. So the companies coming to colleges for providing internships are of prime importance and in case of having missed an opportunity through college, online portals just serve as a good secondary option.

- Shivam Chhabra, Integral University, Lucknow.

Online internship portals provide best bet for any 'B' grade college since the campus placements depends on the reputation of the college which is vice versa in the case of an 'A' grade college where the big companies participate in the recruitment process and give better deals assuming the students passing out from such colleges are supposed to be par above the students passing from a 'B' grade college.

- Anisha Goenka, IBS Kolkata.

Online internship portal are extremely useful for student as they complement college internship placements process. The portals offer variety of internship options for student in addition to the ones offered by B-schools. In the coeval world of today's, internship process is changing rapidly wherein students tend to pick up odd projects. Through online internship portals students come to know of various internship programme, which finally helps them to zero in on one among all options from all online portals and colleges.

- Nilaya Mitash Shanker, Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee.

An internship program should be such that it helps students get the best bet and it totally depends on various factors such as college, students, and company, among other things. In reality, in many cases of the internship, several students fail to get into their dream company because of lack of exposure of the college with the big corporates. Internet portals overcome these barriers and showcase students profile in a more elegant way to the targeted employers and help them to get the best intern with much less efforts.

- Harsh Mehta, St. Kabir Institute of Professional Studies, Ahmedabad.

India is not a nation which lacks resources rather it has got huge mismatch between its supply and demand factors. Apart from some top notch colleges a vast majority suffers from this problem. The internship portals offer a diverse range of opportunities which the prospective candidates can look for and apply to. It reduces countless hassles for both the parties. In many colleges students find it really difficult to get internships in their desired field of interest just because of the process of allotment of projects or they miss the criteria by a whisker ending up in huge disappointment.

- Prateek Parimal, Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA).

Online internship portals have hit the right pulse of large chunk of students who were struggling to get some proper organisation for their internship. These online portals are meeting the needs and interests of both the parties in the easiest way. While comparing it on parity, the only thing is that there is much alignment of organisation with college core areas and placement scenario than that of internship portals. So one needs to evaluate this equation before choosing any of them.

- Anurag Srivastava, Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA).
