Dear Students,

LAST WEEK WE ASKED: With UK Prime Minister David Cameron removing the limit on number of Indian students studying in the UK, do you think the move will impact the Indian higher education sector?

BEST RESPONSE

It was misappropriation of student visa on the part of many Indians which prompted for the strict enforcement of post study work visa. This deterred the Indians from studying in UK but now UK Prime Minister David Cameron has given relaxation on visa norms. This move will entail a rise in the number of students opting for studying in UK. It will obviously have a good impact on the Indian higher education sector as a greater number of students will have an international exposure. Also it will leave more scope for talented students within India to reach greater heights.

OTHER RESPONSES:

There will be definitely an impact of this decision on the number of Indian students applying for higher education at UK. There would be more enrollment of students due to the limit being removed as UK has always been one of the popular destinations for higher education among the student community.
- Rituparna Saha Ray, Fr. C. Rodrigues Institute of Management Studies, Navi Mumbai.

The Indian higher education sector will face the problems of brain drain with eminent Indian science aspirants moving to The UK looking for greater research opportunities. It will not only impact the research quality but also the industrial expertise and the highly skilled work force tilting towards the western counterpart. The education sector will fail to attract foreign talent and faculty because of which they would be bereft of finer quality educational experiences and research practices.
- Debayan Daw, ITM University, Gurgaon

The gloomy atmosphere of inflexible visa norms for Indian students in UK for Indian students, which had earlier resulted in steep decline in the inflow of students by around 24 per cent, has been dispelled by the recent announcement by David Cameron in regard to the new visa rules. This would pave the way for the aspirants of higher studies abroad. But the effect on higher education in India would be insignificant because education in foreign countries is facilitated by the factors like exuberant fees, previous academic record, ranking of the universities, safety and security and so on.
- Dipika Sahoo, College of Engineering and Technology, Bhubaneswar.

As more number of students pursue higher education in UK they will get to acquire an international exposure and build a strong alumni network which would ultimately help in refining India's higher education system and industry more. At the same time the move will help promote exchange programme for students, faculty, international fraternity and industry representatives strengthening bilateral relations more.
- Nandish Agarwal, Galgotias College of Engineering and Technology, Greater Noida.

It will have a great impact on Indian students those who are not able to grab this opportunities now there will be a door open for them, it will have a great impact on education level and employment. Relations between the countries will also improve, and most change will be seen in education level in Indian education system, and there will be decreasing trend among different culture consequences.
