LAST WEEK WE ASKED: Do you think the new government should review the demand-supply situation in management and technical education seats in the country?

In recent decade, rising interest towards professional courses has resulted in numerous colleges coming up so as to fulfill the increasing demand. But majority of such institutes fail to garner students due to their incompetence in providing quality education. Consequently, this has led to a situation where massive portion of seats going vacant each year with no student takers. This requires the government to come into foray, monitoring the requirements at each stage, in-order to maintain consistent supply proportionate to the demand. It might involve either improving upon the current standard of existing institutes or closing down the inferior ones.

According to reports about 120 colleges (including all disciplines) across the country are about to closed down in 2013-2014 because of not being able to fill the seats.  On the other hand around 500 new colleges have applied for new set up. But in India overall scenario is that more educational institutions are closing down than new ones are opening up. This is certainly is wake-up call for unscrupulous and incompetent institute and above all for Government to review demand-supply gap for educational seats.  This issue is again pointing towards Quality in education rather than Quantity of educational institute.
