The visa restrictions imposed by countries like the UK and others will make it a lot more dearer for students from other countries-more so from India, given the number of students who go abroad to study. The primary intention behind the move is curbing the number of immigrants has the potential to have several repercussions-economic and social. From the social and political realm, it will put even more pressure on our Government to improve the educational facilities and job prospects here. At the moment, the student has to settle with acquiring lower quality education and limited job prospects.

The visa norms are supposedly strict to attract talented pupils only in variety of fields. So candidates willing to pursue higher education from other than their home country definitely face an uphill task. But current trends suggest getting hold of education visa is even more cumbersome, in a way making it dearer for students. Indeed, this has had a detrimental impact in the figures of those opting for overseas education. A collaborative solution needs to be in place for mutual growth of countries through fair exchange of students by dropping rigid norms rather being flexible in having an interspersed environment.

Higher education from abroad has always been an uptrend and countries like UK, US, Australia etc. are the ones majorly preferred. But recent slump in the number of overseas students in UK specifically is surprising. Stringent reforms to the student visa system, increased accreditation requirements for sponsors and extended robust inspection arrangements to private sector providers, has engendered to the dip and consecutively accounted for a hike in tuition fees. Backed by results from the study of HEFCE, stricter visa norms have turned higher education dearer and applicants thus are eyeing to other countries like US, Canada and Australia.

With stricter visa norms, there will be excess of demand over supply. The obvious repercussion will be higher education becoming dearer. This step will create crises of visa in those countries where provision is strict. But, this will be a boon for countries where universities are good and visa norms are easier.
