The Tata Group has signed an agreement with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), UK, to train Indian students as Associate Chartered Accountants (ACA) who will be recruited into the Tata Graduate Accounts Trainee (GAT) programme.

Under the programme, around 49 commerce and finance graduates will be selected from India's top universities and will undergo training at Tata Management Training Centre (TMCT) for a period of three years.

Students under the programme will be trained using the new ACA syllabus that will be launched in September 2007, and will be tailored to meet the needs of Tata Sons.

The programme will use International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and will be the first of its kind in India. Post training and examination the students will be absorbed by 7 Tata Group companies.

Ishaat Hussain, FCA, Finance Director of Tata Sons said, "Tata Group is a global organisation operating in a multi-sector business marketplace across the world. To be able to maintain our growth and international presence, we need finance professionals with a global functional capability. The ACA is such a qualification and will enable us to build a team of finance professionals that can provide true leadership to our businesses."

The ICAEW is a founding member of the Global Accounting Alliance with over 700,000 members worldwide.
