The book that inspired me

My inspiration was, is and remains P G Wodehouse. And it is impossible to choose any one book penned by this beautiful human being as the one definitive book.

From the early 20th century, this British writer "" the creator of immortal characters such as Jeeves, Bertie Wooster, Psmith and Lord Edgeworth "" kept churning out "good stuff" till he died on Valentine's Day in 1975.

What is interesting is that all the developments in the field of modern HR practices point in the Wodehousian direction.

The 360-degree feedback, the anonymous employee survey, the open door, the lunch-box, the skip-level meetings ... all these are methods that seek to develop a normal, human CEO who has not lost touch with real life.

The Wodehousian thought process comes rather handy while managing new age companies.

A CEO need not punish himself and those around him by enveloping himself in pomposity. It is absolutely all right to be an easy going person and a hard-headed entrepreneur, both at the same time. The two styles, more often than not, do complement each other rather effectively.
