The book that inspired me

The Days of My Years captures and describes a man for whom the essence of life was "the will to win and a pocketful of dreams".

But, of course, it was more than that. When I read this book, I found that the values enunciated are very relevant for today's fast-changing world.

The life and times of industralist H P Nanda (incidentally, my grandfather) have been a constant source of guidance for me, in understanding and meeting today's challenges. Of not only taking Escorts forward, but also in connecting with people and the issues faced by society, with compassion and humility.

He carried the world in his heart and success to him was not just building Escorts to greatness. What truly mattered, as the book shows, was the contribution towards making life better for everybody.

His insights into valuing friendship, and the relationships he transformed with his simplicity and integrity, are meaningful. For him "an entrepreneur was a man with understanding of the nation's most fundamental needs and a global perspective."

This is a book about a man who gave much to his people and showed a path of time-tested values, which today find universal acceptance.
