Unnati Foundation along with Thermax and Zensar today announced the placement of their first batch of students.

This is part of an initiative where business houses have come forward to recruit the first batch of eight candidates who are completing their 70 day training at the Unnati Centre. The candidates are being offered salaries ranging between Rs 8,000 and Rs 12,000 per month.

"Through this Centre, we hope to contribute to the efforts of the National Skill Development Mission and it is our aim to provide a meeting ground for industry requirements and the aspirations of unemployed youth. We urge people to spread awareness about this programme so that more candidates can benefit from it," explains Anu Aga, Director, Thermax.

The Centre has an annual target of upgrading the skills of 200-300 candidates in the age group of 18 to 35, with assured employment. It is currently based at the facility provided by the Urban Community Development department of the Pune Municipal Corporation at the PMT Building at Swargate.

The Skill Development Centre, launched by the Thermax Social Initiative Foundation and Zensar Foundation in partnership with PMC and the NGO, Unnati Foundation, began functioning in Pune in January this year. The training, with no fees being charged, empowers young and underprivileged citizens with professional skills and helps them find right jobs.

"India needs a skilled workforce of over 500 million by 2022 and our initiative will be a contributor to this mission in this city of Pune," said Ganesh Natarajan, Vice Chairman and CEO of Zensar.

Unnati Foundation has designed the programme and takes care of the selection of the candidates, their training and final placement. The students are being trained in spoken English, time management, team work, personality development, value systems, basic computer skills, basic accounting and customer care, making them ready for jobs in administrative assistance, hospitality and retail sectors.
