The Xavier Labour Relations Institute (XLRI), Jamshedpur, recently concluded its 48th annual convocation where students of the 2004 batch received their post-graduate diplomas.

In all, a batch of 62 students each from the business management, and personnel management and industrial relations streams, seven students from the Fellow Programme in Management and 55 Executive Post Graduate Programme (EPGP) students graduated this year. This included the first batch of EPGP students from Dubai who completed their three-year course for working executives.

The event was also the occasion to present the 37th Sir Jehangir Ghandy Medal for Industrial and Social Peace.

This year it was presented to the Congregation of the Missionaries of Charity, Kolkata for promoting peace through the celebration of human dignity. Sister Nirmala, who took over as the organisation's Superior General after Nobel Laureate Mother Teresa, accepted the honour.

At the event, B Muthuraman, managing director, Tata Steel and chairman of the Board of Governors for XLRI, advised students not to treat their career "as a 100-metre race but as a marathon".

"Many MBAs experience burnouts early in their career due to the high stress that comes with the enormous responsibilities and round-the-clock work expected from them. To finish this race, what one requires is a lot of stamina," he said.

Part-time management course from WIM
