The dyestuffs and dye-intermediates industry is facing competition from countries like Korea, China, Japan, Thailand, Indonesia and Taiwan.

The industry will have to achieve economy of scale and improve productivity to counter the effect of lower tariff, said MP Agarwal, director of Sajjan India Ltd, a golden trading house, in an interview with Devendra Vyas.

What is the present status of dyestuffs and dye-intermediates?

The Indian dyestuff industry has demonstrated a significant growth of 20-25 per cent per annum in terms of export. The trend of export of dyes and dye-intermediates can be seen in the given table.

Availability of basic feed stock, matured chemical engineering base, availability of trained supervisory and plant personnel, high degrees of entrepreneurship, are the important factors, which have contributed for the same.

 

Nevertheless, the Indian share in world trade is just five to six per cent as against China
