India's stock markets had a troubled beginning in 2016 (calendar year), with steep declines in the first two months (January and February). After Union Budget 2016-17, Indian shares made a strong comeback, with key stock indices gaining nearly 10 per cent year-to-date. Amid this, there are stocks, which gained a whopping 70-200 per cent during this period.

Among the top 20, most gainers are from different sectors, signifying the fact that the massive rally in some was not limited to a certain sector or companies. For instance, Manappuram Finance, Dalmia Bharat and Muthoot Finance have doubled in value.

There are companies from cement, steel, metal, banking, pharmaceuticals and non-banking financial company sectors which have made to the top 20. There are losers, too. But, their extent of losses is much lower than their counterparts. The value of Idea Cellular, Reliance Communications, Wockhardt, Inox Wind and Welspun India fell between 40 and 47 per cent.
