Out of the 2,761 stocks, as many as 1,608 stocks (58 per cent) are available at half the price of their one-year highs on BSE. Rising inflation and poor quarterly results in March were responsible for equity market downfall.
The total market captialisation of the actively traded stocks on BSE have eroded by Rs 24,31,827 crore or 32 per cent from its high of Rs 75,33,789 crore on January 7, 2008 to Rs 51,01,962 crore on Wednesday.
Of these 1,608 stocks, 269 stocks discounted more than 70 per cent to their one-year highs, 564 stocks in the range of 60-70 per cent and the remaining 775 stocks between 50 per cent and 60 per cent discount to their one-year high market price.
However, as many as 90 per cent or 2,457 stocks fell more than 27 per cent than the benchmark Sensex.
The Sensex has fallen by 27 per cent or 5,691.98 points from its intra-day, all-time high of 21,206.77 on January 10 to close at 15,514.79 on Wednesday. The S&P CNX Nifty has declined 28 per cent (1,772 points) from 6,357.10 to 4,585.60 during the period.
