800 stocks hit 52-week high

As many as 800 stocks, accounting for 47 per cent of the number of actively traded stocks, hit new 52-week highs in October on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).

Today, of the 1,926 scrips traded under the A, B, B1, T and Z categories on the BSE, as many as 244 scrips closed the day at 52-week highs.

Of the 244 scrips, as many as 93 stocks are from the BSE B group, 64 scrips from the B1 group, 42 from the T group and 29 from the Z group. Only 16 stocks were from the frontline A group and this included only three Sensex scrips: HDFC Bank, Infosys Technologies and Wipro.

Of the 244 scrips, 99 scrips were at all-time highs, including 37 scrips from B1 group, 29 from the B group, 17 scrips are from the BSE's newly formed T group and eight are from the Z group.

In last one month, the Sensex has increased by 4.64 per cent (258.93 points) from 5583.61 on September 30 to 5842.54.

Information technology, engineering and pharmaceuticals stocks are back in the limelight with most stocks from these sectors currently trading at 52-week highs on the BSE. As many as 22 pharmaceutical, 17 information technology and 15 engineering stocks hit the roof today.

Of the scrips at 52-week highs, 13 scrips are from the textiles sector, 11 from non-banking finance sector, nine are from auto ancillaries, eight from construction and five each from electronics and courier and transport companies.

Other than Infosys and Wipro, the other technology stocks at 52-week highs today include Tata Elxsi, Aztech Software, Aftek Infosys and Geodesic Information Systems. Among textile stocks, Aarvee Denim, Raymond, Vardhman Spinning and Suryalata Spinning all hit 52-week highs.

Prominent mid-cap pharma stocks at all time highs include Aarti Drugs, Alembic, Gufic Biosicence, Ind Swift Lab, Panacea Biotec, Solvay Pharma, Tasc Pharma, Themis Medicare, Hester Pharma and Venus Remedies.

The other stocks that currently trading at their historic highs on the BSE include Siemens at Rs 1195, MICO at Rs 1889.80, Rico Rs 459.95, Herbertsons Rs 151, Nagarjuna Constructions Rs 370, IVRCL Infrasturers Rs 264.25, EID Parry Rs 364, Nav Bharat Ferro Alloys Rs 413, Alfa Laval Rs 675 and Sesa Goa at Rs 834.
