All-round buying lifts Sensex by 1.5%

All round buyin in the market lifted the Sensex to a high of 9377. The index is now up 1.5% (136 points) at 9373.

Wipro up 4% at Rs 479 and BHEL up 3% at Rs 1,509 continue to hold firm ground.

Reliance Energy, Hindalco, Tata Steel, NTPC, Satyam, Bharti Tele and Hero Honda are up 2-3% each.

Infosys, HDFC, Tata Motors, ICICI Bank, SBI, ITC, TCS, ACC, Maruti, Tata Power and Grasim are also holding solid gains.

Ranbaxy down 1% at Rs 380 following its Q4 performance, and HDFC down 0.7% at Rs 731 are the only losers.

Out of 2,421 stocks traded so far, 1,882 have advanced, 484 have declined and the rest are unmoved.

Reliance tops the value chart with a turnover of Rs 171 crore followed by Reliance Capital (Rs 57.97 crore), Era Constructions (Rs 57.96 crore), Titan (Rs 47.76 crore) and Bajaj Hindustan (Rs 33.40 crore).

Rana Sugars leads the volume chart with trades of around 45.23 lakh shares followed by SAIL (32.73 lakh shares), Gayatri Sugars (30.40 lakh shares), Era Constructions (28.07 lakh shares) and Reliance (24.58 lakh shares).
