Another positive start for the market

The markets have opened in the positive on the last trading day of the year with the Sensex up 47 points at 20,436 and the Nifty adding six points at 6,108. Meanwhile, the broader markets have opened strong with the midcap and the smallcap indices gaining 0.3% each. In comparison to the BSE benchmark index at 0.2%, the broader markets are outperforming.

On the BSE sectoral charts, Consumer Durables up 0.5% tops the chart, closely followed by Capital Goods, Auto and Realty gaining 0.4% each.However, FMCG index has opened in the negative, down 0.1%. PSU index is flat at 9,406.

Reliance Communications up nearly 3% is the top gainer on the Sensex in the opening trades followed by Jaiprakash Associates, Reliance Infrastructure, DLF, Tata Power gaining between 1% -2%

Hero Honda down 1% is the top loser in the opening trades. The others on the list are Bharti Airtel, Hindustan Unilever, NTPC, HDFC and     Sterlite lost 0.2%- 0.7%

The market breadth is very positive. Of the total 1343 stocks traded on the BSE, 949 stocks have advanced while 362 have declined.
