Asian markets were trading mixed in the morning session as lack of clear direction from the US bourses capped the rise, strengthening Yen boosted Japan.
US markets ended flat as traders were skittish ahead of a double whammy next week: US elections and announcement of quantitative easing two by the Federal reserve.
The Dow Jones industrial average gained 0.05%, to 11,169.46. The Standard & Poor's 500 ended flat at 1,185.64. The Nasdaq Composite Index gained 0.26 percent, to 2,497.29.
Yen eased, giving some respite to the exporters in Tokyo, Japan's Nikkei Stock Average was up 0.7% in the morning session.
Property and banking shares climbed higher in Hong Kong, Heng Seng index was trading flat, up 0.1%. China's Shanghai Composite was down 0.2%, Seoul Composite and Taiwan Weightend were trading marginally lower, down 0.2% each.
