Asian markets in negative zone; Nikkei slips 541pts

Asian markets are deep into red following negative cues from the US markets.

The Hang Seng has slumped 980 points to 13,860. The Nikkei has plunged 541 points to 8,980.

The Taiwan Weighted index has shed 288 points at 4,691. The Straits Times index has slipped 80 points to 1,789, and the Seoul Composite index has declined 83 points to 1,099.

The Shanghai Composite index is down 50 points at 1,710.
