Asian markets mixed; Nikkei drops 116pts

The Asian markets displayed mixed trend today.

The Nikkei ended with a loss of 116 points at 16,744.

While the Hang Seng was up 161 points at 19,130, the Shanghai index slipped 17 points to 2935.

The Taiwan Weighted index moved up 24 points to 7720. The Straits Times index declined nine points to 3086, and the Seoul Composite index was up a point at 1428.
