Asian markets slide on weak US cues

Asian markets have tumbled deep into red in morning trades following weak cues from the US markets over the weekend.

The Hang Seng has slumped 706 points (2.9%) to 23,626. The Nikkei has plunged 546 points (4%) to 13,057.

The Taiwan Weighted index has dropped 217 points (2.6%) to 8,196. The Straits Times and the Seoul Composite indices are also down almost 3% each at 2,939 and 1,663, respectively.

The Shanghai Composite index is down 15 points at 4,334.
