Balco Deal Powers Alstom

Alstom Power hit a high of Rs 40.70 on the BSE before closing at Rs 40.50, up by 3.58 per cent.

More than 43,090 shares were traded on the BSE. The stock rose after Alstom Norway bagged an order worth Rs 102 crore from Bharat Aluminium Company (Balco) to supply pollution control systems for their aluminium smelter plant, according to market sources.

The total value of the contract is Rs 102 crore of which the Indian portion, to be executed by Alstom Projects India, will constitute Rs 84 crore while the remaining will be executed by Alstom Norway.

For the first quarter ended June 30, 2003, Alstom Projects posted a 36 per cent fall in sales to Rs 93.66 crore. However, it posted a 6 per cent rise in profit after tax to Rs 7.22 crore.
