Banking, Pharma Scrips Rise

The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) sensex settled higher for the second day in a row on Thursday, following continued buying in heavyweight blue-chip stocks in anticipation of strong quarterly results.

After trading a range of 21.91 points, the sensex ended with a gain of 26.33 points at 3,384.20, off the intra-day high of 3,388.19.

Meanwhile, on the National Stock Exchange, the S&P CNX Nifty index rose 8 points to settle at 1,097.35. Overall, gainers outnumbered losers in heavy trades. Apart from select blue-chips, banking and pharma stocks also improved on institutional buying. Second-tier technology stocks hogged the limelight amid hopes of impressive quarterly performances.
