Barley prices gained Rs 5.20 or 0.46 per cent to Rs 1,126.60 per quintal in futures trade today on short covering by traders, amid short supply at spot markets.
Marketmen said pick up in demand and restricted supply in physical markets led to a rise in barley prices in futures trading. Brisk buying by beer and cattle-feed makers in spot markets also influenced the trading sentiment, they added.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, barley prices for July-month contract moved up by Rs 5.20 or 0.46 per cent to Rs 1,126.60 per quintal, with an open interest of 16,950 lots.
Current June-month contract delivery also recovered by Rs 2.40 or 0.22 per cent to Rs 1,103 per quintal, with an open interest of 1,690 lots.
