Barley prices rose by Rs 7.40 to Rs 1,386 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators enlarged their positions, driven by a firming trend at the spot markets.

Market analysts said increased buying by traders in line with pick-up in demand at spot markets influenced the trading sentiments.

In addition, restricted supplies also influenced the barley prices at futures trade here.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, barley prices for delivery in June at Jaipur-Rajasthan moved up by Rs 7.40, or 0.54% to Rs 1,386 per quintal, with an open interest of 10,000 lots.

Similarly, the prices for delivery in July went up by Rs 7.80, or 0.56% to Rs 1,395 per quintal, with an open interest of 3,040 lots.
