Barley prices moved up by Rs 16 to Rs 1,409 per quintal in the futures trade today following buying by traders on the back of restricted arrivals and strong physical demand.
Market analysts said fall in supply in tandem with strong demand from beer and cattle-feed making industries led to the rise in barley futures prices here.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, barley for delivery in July rose by Rs 16, or 1.15% to Rs 1,409 per quintal, with an open interest of 40 lots.
Similarly, barley prices for delivery in May rose by Rs 7.40, or 0.56% to Rs 1,327 per quintal, with an open interest of 13,890 lots.
