Barley surges on aggressive buying

Barley prices rose by Rs 52 to Rs 1,650 per quintal in futures trading today following brisk buying by speculators guided by firm domestic spot markets.

Marketmen said prices rose smartly  on low levels buying, sparked by strong demand in spot markets from beer and cattle-feed making industries.

At the National Commodities and Derivatives Exchange, the June delivery shot up by Rs 52, or 3.25%, to Rs 1,650 per quintal with an open interest of 1,648 lots.

The May contract surged Rs 31.50, or 2.02%, to Rs 1,592.50 per quintal, having an open interest of 19,010 lots.

The April contract advanced by  Rs 30.50, or 2.0%, to Rs.1,554 per quintal, clocking an open interest of 8,640 lots.
