Base metals remained firm and prices rose by up to Rs 5 per kg in the local non-ferrous metal market today on increased buying by stockists influenced by a firming trend at the London Metal Exchange (LME).
Sentiments remained firm as copper rose in London before US government's reports on personal consumption and gross domestic product, which economists say will show a faster growth, signalling more demand of the metals in the world's second-largest copper buyer.
Meanwhile, copper rose by 0.3% to $9,088 and nickel by 0.2% to $23,450 a tonne on the LME. In the national capital, copper wire scrap, copper wire bar and copper mixed scrap were up by Rs 3 each to Rs 510, Rs 533 and Rs 493, respectively.
