Base metals rise on higher global trend

Firm conditions prevailed in the wholesale non-ferrous metals market today with prices of copper and other base metals rose upto Rs 5 per kg in line with a firming trend overseas.

Pick up in industrial demand also influenced the metal prices.

Trading sentiment remained firm after copper climbed for the second day in Asia, on optimism that economic growth in China, the world’s largest user of metals, will boost demand and offset a slowdown in the US and Europe.

Meanwhile, copper for three-month delivery rose by 1.2 per cent to $6,588 and nickel climbed 1.1 per cent to $19,000 a metric tonne on the London Metal Exchange.

 

In the national capital, copper wire scrap, copper wire bar and copper mixed scrap were strengthened further by Rs 2 each Rs 362, Rs 381 and Rs 340 per kilo, respectively.

Zinc ingot, lead ingot and lead imported also traded higher by rupee one each at Rs 120.50, Rs 116.50 and Rs 119.50 per kg. Nickel (4x4) too traded higher by Rs 5 to Rs 865-979 per kg.
