Base metals soften on global cues

Copper and other base metals turned weak and prices fell up to Rs 5 per kg in the local non-ferrous metals market today in tandem with a weak trend at the London Metal Exchange.

Trading sentiment turned bearish after copper and other industrial metals weakened in global market, as the dollar rebounded.

Meanwhile, copper for three-month delivery lost one per cent to $8,315.75 a metric tonne on the London Metal Exchange.

In the national capital, copper wire scrap, copper wire bar and copper mixed scrap, which remained in demand in last couple of days met with resistance and declined by Rs 2 each to Rs 430, Rs 449 and Rs 410 per kg, respectively.

 

Nickel (4x4) followed suit and lost Rs 5 to Rs 985-987 per kg.

In line with a weakening general trend, zinc ingot, lead ingot and lead were also traded lower by rupee one each to Rs 125.50, Rs 127 and Rs 129 per kg.
